Best Love Songs Of All Time
In this blog post, let’s examine the best love songs from each of the past 7 decades and from a few genres of music, and pick the absolute best love song of all time.
Take this musical journey of love songs through the decades in this post!
Best Love Songs Of The 50s
The best love song of the 50’s has to be Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers. This masterpiece has remained a classic, and has been covered by many great singers. It’s still incredibly emotional, and the vocal performances of the Righteous Brothers is still incredible and touching.
Another great love song from the 50s is Only You by The Platters. From the very first line, you are drawn in by the uniqueness of the sound and the incredible vocal performance.
Best Love Songs Of The 60s
The best love song from the 50s has to be Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love. This song feels like it’s from the 50’s, but it was written in 1961, so it’s right on the cusp. In any case, this song is completely timeless. It’s tender, loving, and heartfelt.
My Girl by the Temptations was released in 1964, but also has that 50’s feel. It’s another great love song.
Best Love Songs Of The 70s
How Can I Tell You by Cat Stevens is a sweet and endearing love song released in 1971.
Another great one from the 70s is How Deep Is Your Love by The Bee Gees.
There are too many great tunes from the 70s, so I am adding a third candidate to this list, and that is Fernando by ABBA.
Best Love Songs Of The 80s
I Just Called To Say I Love You by Stevie Wonder is such a great and sweet love song. It has to make it to this list.
Another song that belongs here is Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time.
The 80s were a tremendous decade for music, so we need more candidates for the best love song from this decade. A worthy candidate of the best love song of the 80s is Chris De Burgh’s Lady In Red.
Best Love Songs Of The 90s
This song feels like an 80s song, but it’s from the 90s. It’s emotional, and it is truly a romantic song.
Best Love Songs Of 2000s
One of my favorite songs is Ellie Goulding’s How Long Will I Love You. If you listen to one of the tunes from the 70s – Cat Steven’s song on this list, some of the melody will sound very similar. Perhaps this song is inspired by Cat’s song.
John Legend’s All Of Me must also make this list. This tune has incredible energy!
Best Love Song Lyrics
If you don’t mind, I’ll add a couple of songs from my list here. Obviously my songs aren’t anywhere close to the other masterpieces on this list, but I am adding my songs because of the lyrics. I love writing poetry and poetic song lyrics. If you don’t mind, and if you’d be so kind as to give my music a try, here are a few of my songs:
Oh Michelangelo reimagines the classic painting as a touch of two lovers. Here is a page with full lyrics and longer analysis of this passionate love song.
Another song I wrote uses a line from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18, which does make it some of the best love lyrics of all time.
And lastly, I couldn’t stop without posting this song about a crush on Audrey Hepburn.
Best Country Love Song
My pick is A Little Past Little Rock by Lee Ann Womack. Her music is honestly emotional, and she is one of my favorite country singers. I know this isn’t a romantic song. It’s a breakup song. But nevertheless, I choose this one.
Best R&B Love Song
Toni Braxton’s Unbreak My Heart
The Winner Of The Best Love Song Of All Time
Even though there are hundreds of great songs I had to leave out of this list because there are just too many amazing songs, I believe the best love song of all time was accurately on my list. It’s John Legend’s All Of Me.
The poetic lyrics and honest words of love combined with the great vocal performance and energy make this the winner!
