It’s a sad ballad for everyone who has loved, lost, and has not fully let the love go.
The poetry of this song references a stream that symbolizes the gentle whisper of a lover to which is can be so beautiful to relax to and fall asleep. That metaphor is expanded in the song as the lovers boat has some trouble, and one of the partners sails away, and the other is left on a lonely shore.
The song itself is slow and soothing in the same way a lover’s whisper or a gentle river stream can be. When I wrote it, I imagined the listener getting carried by the music into a musical dreamland while listening, and being transported to the world of this song.
While it’s a little bit of a sad love song, it also soothes the listener into a pleasant melancholic dreamland.
